Serves 6
- 1.5kg corned silverside
- 20ml vinegar
- 20g golden syrup
- 6 cloves garlic, peeled
“The poor man’s meet!” I get it, Silverside is cheap and cheerful but holy-moly is it flavourful, and to me that is the most important ingredient in any recipe!
Place the silverside in a large saucepan, add enough water to cover the meat. Add the remaining ingredients and stir bring to the boil. Then reduce heat and simmer, covered for one and a half hours or until tender. Alternatively place the meat in your slow cooker cover with water. Add the remaining ingredients and cook on low for 6 to 8 hours or until tender. Remove and let rest for 10 minutes before slicing.

Use leftovers for fritters, sandwiches (mustard relish, sandwiches), frittatas, or toasties.

Tie a bunch of mixed herbs with kitchen string and add it for a fresh, subtle flavour.
